PaxWorks has been asked by SembrandoPax to fund the expansion of a powerful healing program in Colombia for women victims of sexual violence by armed actors. One community that is frequently occupied by paramilitaries raped women whenever they wanted. The second group of women are ex-combatants of the FARC. So many women were raped and have all that sadness, fear, shame, and rage bottled up in them. They would like to work with trauma specialists to do a mural to help them express what they can’t express verbally and to do it with other women who suffered the same experience. One woman said, ‘with every stroke of the brush I felt my sadness leaving me’.
