In April 2025, at a time of great turbulence and change, Paxworks held a retreat at Daysprings Retreat Centre in Germantown, Maryland for a group of 16 women to come together over a weekend to hold each other in silence and to be gently held by the land. The Retreat Centre is located on over 200 acres of beautiful land and The Lodge kept us all warm and well fed with its welcoming fire and wonderful food.
As not just a Board of Directors, but close friends, we wanted to create and share a space for ourselves and others to intuit what might be facing us, to find the inner resolve to remain open, flexible, present, in order to be awake and available. All of us left with a renewed inner strength and a desire to gather again next year. We plan to do so.
In the meantime, those local to Maryland gather each month for a potluck. Inspired by Hannah Arendt’s injunction that we must create community in every area of our lives, we look out for opportuntites to risk opening our doors, and to celebrate old and new relationships.
